Learning to gain control of your environment

“Business is a game, played for fantastic stakes, and you are in competition with experts. If you want to win, you have to learn to be a master of the game.”   - Sidney Sheldon

Like any game, to become a master you need to know the rules, train hard, learn new techniques and play to your strengths. We’ll be your coach.

By teaching you the rules of your environment, how to capitalise on your capabilities and how to form effective strategies, we equip you with the skills and knowledge to win the business game.

What the Million Dollar Business Program teaches you

When you win at anything it is because you have gained control of your environment and business is no different. We teach you how to analyse your environment, so you can move forward without any unexpected roadblocks or hurdles standing in your way..

Know your numbers

In order to control your business environment you must understand your numbers. These provide the framework for your business and are ultimately how we measure success.

Know why your numbers exist

Knowing your numbers is great, but on their own they don’t tell us anything. In order to fully understand your business, you need to find out how and why the numbers have occurred. This is where we delve into the information beyond the numbers. The unmeasurable effects of beliefs, values, feelings and motivations that impact the figures.

Practical Application

Now you know how to analyses your business, the next step is applying this to your business. Here’s an example of how the Million Dollar Business Program was applied to a struggling restaurant business:

Background

A business owner took part in our program because their restaurant was failing. With diminishing sales and rising costs the owner knew something was wrong, but didn’t know what.

The Problem

As part of our program we assisted the business owner to analyses their numbers, this revealed that sales had dropped by 47% over a 15 month period. The business owner was baffled and presumed it must be a combination of increased competition and poor marketing.

The Cause

Our programs teach business owners how to investigate the health of their business.

Following this process, the business owner contacted previous customers for feedback. He was amazed to find that one regular customer (with a weekly spend of up to $500) was rudely treated by a new chef after complaining about a meal, another regular customer was turned away because the restaurant was busy, with no recognition of their loyalty.

In total 25 customers were contacted and all complained that they didn’t feel appreciated, received poor service and were unhappy with the inconsistency of the food. When put into financial terms the impact totaled more than $250,000 a year in revenue.

The Solution

Through the Million Dollar Business Program the business owner gained the skills required to understand the numbers of their business and how they had changed. They were then able to apply the process learnt during the program to identify the reasons they had changed.

As a result they were able to devise an action plan to turn the business around. They brought in a new chef, implemented a customer list, loyalty card and feedback mechanism and provided customer service training for all staff.

The Result

12 months on, the business has increased revenue by 60% and profit by 15%; it now has money sitting in the bank for future investment.

Conclusion

Knowing the numbers isn’t enough, yes it’s important, but without the “why” and “how” you can’t form a plan. Once the business owner knew why his numbers had changed, he was able to implement changes to turn the situation around, seeing a significant rise in financial gain, customer satisfaction and success.
